Party Time in San Antonio!

This post is only 6 months late. That's how I roll. =) So for the Navy Caleb has to do his 2 week training in San Antonio Texas at Lackland Airforce Base (weird I know) anyway, the last two years I've been able to go with him. He usually would get home between 1 and 2 every day and would come home for an hour lunch so it was a great vacation for both of us. He took the rental car with him everyday (I'll tell you the story why at the end of the post) so I would go swimming/lay out and read until he got back. It was such a relaxing time. The place where we were staying was perfect. They had delicious breakfast every morning and appetizers in the evening on the weekdays.

The navy pays for Caleb's flight but we had to purchase mine. So this is Caleb picking me up from the airport.

Here's a tour of the hotel room.
On the second to last day in Texas it rained,
So I got a little bored waiting for Caleb to come back to the hotel for lunch. So naturally I entertained myself.
I was surprised this picture turned out so well. You can see his hands are full and he's trying to get his key card.
I got him pretty good.

We had a little picnic on the floor.... and not just because he dropped everything when I scared him.
We went to the Alamo Drafthouse for dinner and a movie. The food was really good and the previews before the show were awesome. Next year we'll definitely have to go back there. We saw Iron Man (I think). Most of the movies we saw while in Texas were all Caleb's choice. =)
So one night I wanted to see Letters to Juliet and Caleb wanted Robinhood so we went to different movies. It was so weird, yet liberating. =) Caleb sat next to some family and stole popcorn from their little boy. ;)
We went to the San Antonio Zoo. Caleb was a natural with the goats.
Clearly I need some practice.
15 seconds earlier the tan goat took advantage of me.
Caleb helped herd the rhinos.
While I checked out the bug infestation.
Caleb snacked on Alligators for lunch.
Then rode the baby elephant over to the bear exhibit.
We really thought they'd be bigger.
Especially since their paws are so big.
This is what would happen if you don't shave for a week. =)
My little animal cracker.
Overall it was a good day at the zoo.
We also went to the Riverwalk. We did this last year too and had such a great time.

We rode down the river it really is such a beautiful city.
The Riverwalk has such a neat atmosphere.
I think that is the mall above the river.
Caleb gets 2 free tickets to Sea World every year for being in the Navy so we made sure to stop by Sea World San Antonio.
Caleb took this picture and I really loved the little fin. =)
Such a perfect vacation. Plus we got paid to go, so that's always a bonus!
Just your typical elevator ride with Shamu back at the hotel.

Okay now to my embarrassing experience at Lackland AFB I finished this post a while ago but didn't want to remember this embarrassing story so I've put it off. =) I'll just use bullet points to tell the good parts.
  • Caleb took my military ID with him to work.
  • I didn't know my way around the base at all.
  • I had to flip multiple U'eys because I was about to go off base and couldn't get back on w/o ID.
  • On base (here at Hill Field AFB too) at 7:30 a.m. 5:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. they play taps on base and apparently everything pauses. Cars stop and pedestrians stand still.
  • I finally found the stupid commissary and went it to do some serious shopping.
  • I got to the check out and was asked for ID (which I thought was weird) so I showed them my Drivers License.
  • Apparently they meant my military ID which I didn't have so I couldn't buy my groceries. Luckily they didn't make me put everything away.
When Caleb got home I was so distraught. I told him what had happened and he didn't get mad at me because he thought my experience was punishment enough.

Hide yo kids, hide yo wife....

My brother-in-law Jed sent me this. It is an actual news story in Huntsville Alabama.

Of course something like that needs to be made into a song right.... enjoy.

Grandma gets a whoopin’

From the man that brought you this:

comes this:

Becky: Why should I vote for you to get Lasik?
Eric: "Because I'm the best. Because I have more reason to see clearly than does anyone else. Because I am what others wish to be."

Eric my bro-in-law is competing for free Lasik from Hoopes Vision. Here is his video submission. The link is http://www.hoopesvision.com/contest/video.html and his is the one entitled "Lasik Contest Entry! mov." where he beats up a poor old lady. =)

Becky: Why should I tell my faithful 17 followers to vote for you?
Eric: "Tell your followers that I need Lasik because everyone needs Lasik and we should all help each other to see a little better. Also, tell them something like I am working six jobs to support my wife and six kids and I lost both my legs and my spleen in the war and I don't have money for groceries and stuff like that. They'll dig it."

So there you have it. My poor spleenless paraplegic brother in law needs your vote. Think of the kids people. =) Okay, joking aside. He’s a pretty good kid and I’d love to see him in those ridiculous glasses they make you wear afterward. Maybe I’ll post some pictures from my surgery last year.

What really happens when you sleep .....

Two nights ago I was sound asleep and woke up to Caleb climbing up the wall in his sleep. He just stood there in bed with one arm on the ceiling and the other on the wall. I touched his leg and told him to lay down, worried he was going to fall (either on me or off the bed) and he laid down and continued to sleep. It made me wonder what in the world he was dreaming about. I wanted to wake him up and ask but I decided to wait until morning. Bad choice. When I asked him about it in the morning he had no idea what I was talking about. He rarely remembers his dreams so I should have known this wouldn’t be any different. I guess we’ll never know.  We can always speculate that he was being chased by a tiger and had to climb high out of its reach. Don’t worry though I was just sleeping so I would have been eaten first. =) Way to think of me Caleb. Which brings me to my next story.

When we were first married we lived in this awesomely ghetto condo. The shower from the people above us was leaking so it was causing damage to our ceiling in the bathroom. At the worst part there were small chunks of the ceiling that would fall in our tub. With that background let me tell you the story. I had a dream that the ceiling in our bedroom right above our bed was sagging like that and about to fall on us so I (honestly) jumped out of bed and woke Caleb up telling him the ceiling was falling. Right about here I was starting to wake up and realize what I was doing. Caleb, being the sweet husband he is looked up at the ceiling and said “It looks like it will be okay until morning, let’s go back to bed” He was basically asleep so he didn’t remember this situation in the morning.  But I was sure embarrassed as I got back into bed with my heart still pounding.

I can think of 3 or 4 different occasions when I wake up terrified standing next to our bed because a spider was about to land on me (in my dream). Dreams are such strange things to me. I can almost always remember my dreams and they are so odd. Plus sometimes I do that weird shake thing when I’m almost asleep and it always wakes me up. Caleb does it too and sometimes it scares me.

Sleeping in the same bed as someone else was definitely a change when we first got married. There were many times when one of us accidentally got slugged by the other. =) A few months after we were married, while sleeping Caleb straight legged me (also known as kicked me) right out of the bed. Who honestly sleeps with their legs straight out? Honestly! I woke him up that time and asked him why he kicked me. He fell back asleep before answering.

I don’t know why I think dreams and sleeping stories are so funny but there is a comedian Mike Birbiglia who sleepwalks and does crazy things while he’s sleeping and I love to hear his stories. Marci introduced us to This American Life where we first heard of him. You'll have to click on play episode to listen.

Rated R

I'm talking about the movie ratings not about Justin from the Bachelorette. =)
In church we got on the topic of movies and it got me thinking. A few weeks ago my little brother and sister went to see an “R rated” movie. I was so upset by this and I tried to talk my sister into seeing a different movie. She didn’t think it was that big of a deal, because it was rated R for violence. I know that I am in no position to tell her what to do; it just seems so pointless to disobey something that is so straightforward.
I am thankful that that I was able to tell my Young Women that I don’t watch those movies and I don’t plan to. There have been times when Caleb and I see a preview and it looks like a show we’d like but then when we see it’s rated R we’re able to put it out of our minds. We even planned on seeing a show while we were in Texas and drove all the way to the theater until we found out that it was rated R and there wasn’t another movie playing at the time so we drove back to our hotel.
I know we don’t have kids but I think what would we say to them if we watched rated R movies but didn’t think they should. It’s kind of hypocritical. In an article about preparing to go to the Temple Elder Kofford of the Seventy said “All too often, we get ourselves enmeshed in the process of trying to understand why God gave us a particular commandment. We want to rationalize. I don’t know where that is more evident than in watching movies. Young people know they should not watch R- or X-rated movies, and yet time after time I hear them say, “Well it’s only rated R because it’s violent.” What difference does it make why it is rated R? The fact is, a prophet of God has said not to go to R-rated movies (see, for example, Ezra Taft Benson, “To the ‘Youth of the Noble Birthright,’ ” Ensign, May 1986, 45). That ought to be good enough.”
I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t tempted or hadn’t seen some shows that were rated R. I am so impressed with my Young Women that were able to say that have not ever watched a rated R movie. In my situation I am blessed to volunteer at the Temple every week so I know I need to keep myself Temple worthy at all times. It makes a lot of decisions easier when I know that I will be entering the Lord’s house later that week.
President Ezra Taft Benson commanded us not watch rated r movies back in 1986 and I am grateful that with all of the things I struggle with, this is not one of them. I know that this is not the popular way of thinking (sometimes even among my LDS friends). But us nerds have got to stick together. =) I want to know what you guys think about this.

Scorpions

Caleb has a list of 5 band that he has to see before he dies. (really it's before the band members die) Scorpions were on that list, so with a little encouragement from Adam and Cara we decided to go. There is definitely a "type" of people that go to these concerts, and we don't fit it.

I wanted a picture of this hottie but as Caleb went to take the picture he turned around and saw the camera completely on him so Caleb pretend like he was taking a random picture of me. Haha
Buttless chaps? Check. (always a necessity for concert goers)
Getting ready to get rocked like a hurricane... (that one's for you Adam)
Crazy Cara you could tell she was a rock star at heart.
Adam and Caleb went to scope out the other peeps at the concert while Cara and I saved our spot.
(um, I just noticed Caleb is in the background of that picture so clearly that is before they left)
Here are our concert companions.
We've been to a few concerts with these two and I have to admit, this one was by far the best.
These drunk people were almost more entertaining than the show. =)

I especially like his kick at .08 seconds.
We had just as much fun sitting and watching the people as we did enjoying the music.
These two guys were so odd. The one lying down must have had a big dinner because he undid his pants and lifted up his shirt and just let his belly hang out. Awkward....
I love this kid.
Here is that crazy dancing couple... this was before he dropped his beer all over.
Adam and Cara put their top baby names in a hat and drew the winner during "Winds of Change"
It was a neat experience to be there with them.
They both had huge grins when they saw what the name was, I'll let them tell you the winner.
Adam and Caleb were copying the dance moves of a girl in front of us.
Cara and I nearly died from laughing so hard.
We definitely looked a lot better at the beginning of the night. =)
We didn't want the night to end, but we had to get up early for work the next morning.
We had a fellow concert goer take our picture for us... the first picture was of his finger, so this was our better option.
Cara and I found these lookers.
It was obvious her guys were posers. Mine on the other hand were the real deal.

Surprise....

This year for Caleb's 28th birthday I made him work for his presents. =) He has been so busy studying for the GMAT that we haven't had much quality time together so I was grateful he went along with my little scavenger hunt.

Here I am holding his first hint. I was so excited. I swear Caleb and Justin took the long way home.

I thought I was excited, look at that face. He's just like a little boy.

Resistance bands he needed to go with the P90X he got from Tanner and Kristin (thanks guys)

While he was going to grab the gift he smacked his already jammed finger. :( He put on a brave face for the picture.

I've heard so many good things about this book. He mentioned that he wanted to read it and I secretly went to Fanzz and used his discount to buy it. Sweet!

He was genuinely surprised to get this. He wouldn't let me put up the first picture I took. He looked like a goober.

The hint for this one read "Getting close but not quite there, behind the ___  ___ not the love chair"

It really took him much longer than it should have to find this. =)
What could it be?
A big propane tank, which means….
No more mini grill for us!
Don't mind the amazon behind Caleb. We photoshopped it in, no way is that our backyard, right?

Yay for birthdays!
I just love him so much.

I feel so blessed to be married to Caleb. He is such a great husband. He is loving and caring and always takes care of me. He is a wonderful provider. We’ve been through a lot together but I wouldn’t have it any other way. It has brought us closer together. Sometimes when we sit in bed and talk we wonder if other people can really be as in love as we are. I hope this newlywed feeling never goes away. Here are some of the things I love about him.

I love cuddling with him when we watch TV. I love the way I feel safe in his arms.

I love when he sings loud in the car then looks at me when it’s my turn.

I love that he learned my favorite song on the guitar so he could sing it to me when I got back from Florida.

I love that when we hold hands they fit perfectly together.

I love how he jokes with my family and has easily secured the favorite child spot with my parents.

I even love when I visit Hollie and Ash looks passed me waiting for him to come in.

I love the way his little brothers look up to him.

I love when he says “you’re married to Caleb Rigby, and that’s cool”

I love you Caleb Rigby!

EXTREMELY graphic post

Honestly, I am not teasing. These pictures are not for the weak stomach folk.

On Friday I had surgery to remove a keloid from my upper arm. Normally I have a strong stomach for things like this, but apparently not when it's on my body and I can feel/see it. It really wasn't that big of a deal but it was kind of gross. It really looks a lot worse than it was. I think Caleb was more traumatized by the whole experience than I was. ;)

Here is the pre-op picture with the awesome magic marker on my arm. I was worried Dr. Checketts was going to do an “I heart mom” tattoo but he refrained.

Dr Checketts called Caleb over to see this part and see if he wanted to take a picture. Ha ha rude huh?  I must have tilted my arm when Caleb was getting ready to take the picture because as I did, blood trickle down my arm. He was so distraught. I did not think he was going to make it back to his seat.
I teased Caleb about him not being able to be in the room during our children’s deliveries and he said “I can be in the room, I just won’t be playing catcher behind home plate”

I really thought I would want to watch the surgery but then when we got there I didn’t dare to look at it. I was worried I’d pass out so I had Caleb document as much as he could.

(the yellow around it is iodine)
I didn’t bruise much until the second day.
Lucky for me we had family pictures on Saturday. I took the bandage off because it would be too hard to hide in the pictures, then I was strategically positioned to make it work. =)

As long as I keep the wrap on it doesn’t bother me, but when I take it off my arm starts throbbing. I am supposed to leave it on for 3 more weeks so I don’t really have a reason to have it off except that the wrap bugs me.
Today it looks a lot better. The bruise is not more yellowish and almost gone; the worst part now is it is starting to itch.
